Redruth has officially announced its intention to bid to become the UK’s first-ever Town of Culture, with the title set to be awarded for 2028.
The bid celebrates everything that makes Redruth special — its rich heritage, creative energy, and strong community spirit — and sets out how culture can act as a driver for pride, opportunity and long-term regeneration. Once known as the richest square mile in the world, Redruth is now experiencing a cultural renaissance, led by arts, heritage, creativity and local people.
The bid has been submitted by Redruth Town Council, Redruth Cultural Consortium and arts organisation The Ladder, with the ambition of putting Redruth firmly on the national cultural map.
