Big congratulations to everyone who participated in the biggest St Piran's Day celebrations of 2011, here in Redruth.  It was a beautiful, bright day with brilliant displays of modern and historical culture.  Please see below for coverage of the event!

Redruth is preparing to hold the “Biggest St Piran’s Day Celebration in Cornwall” this year.  It is being undertaken by a partnership of Redruth Town Council, Redruth Rugby Football Club, Redruth Radio, Redruth and District Chamber of Commerce, and many others.  We have many attractions confirmed and others currently being developed.  This is set to be a town-wide event, beginning at 9am and going on until the small hours of Sunday.  Details are as follow (or click here):

09:55am Town Crier hail and introduction Fore Street
10:00am A Flea Market, open to the public St Andrew’s Crypt, Clinton Rd
10:00am Redruth Radio kicks off the celebrations Tatie Court, Fore Street
10:00am RedYOUth street performers show their moves
10:30am Samba Celtica build up the atmosphere with an hour of high-energy music
11:00am Stalls, exhibitions and rides open Redruth Rugby Club, Lower Cardrew Lane
11:45am The procession takes place led by St Piran and the Hornet Street Band Fore Street – Rugby Club
12:00pm (approx) Andy the busker (Live music) Red Lion, Fore Street
12:00pm Town Crier hail and Mayor’s address Redruth Rugby Club 
12:30pm Redruth School Samba band entertain us  
12:45pm Salsa demonstrations and workshops with Salsa Etc  
1:00pm The R-Factor singing contest hosted by Redruth Radio Tatie Court, Fore Street
1:15pm An afternoon performance by the young people at RedYOUth Redruth Rugby Club
1:45pm Redruth Town Band play
2:00pm A charity firewalk! (subject to numbers)

2:15pm Redruth School Samba band show their skills one last time
2:30pm Redruth School Choir perform songs for the crowd
2:45pm The school choir are joined by others to sing Trelawney before the Rugby match gets underway

Other information:
The Redruth and District Chamber of Commerce are holding a window-dressing competition for all Redruth businesses, with a prize for the winner click here for more info
The theme of the day for everyone in Redruth is black and white.  Dress in anything black and white – and bring flags along if you have them!
The normal car parks are open as usual – there is ample parking.  There is no parking available to the general public at Redruth Rugby Club.
A Flea Market is taking place at St Andrew's Church Crypt, Clinton Road, between 10am-12:30pm.

For the most part all events are absolutely free of charge to everyone; however normal ticketing prices are in place to gain entry to the Rugby Club between 1pm and 3:45pm (£10 for over 16s; free for under 16s).  All those who enter beforehand will not be charged and can still enjoy all the festivities, including the Rugby Match, completely free of charge.
