Redruth Old Cornwall Society
Redruth Old Cornwall Society Town Museum is situated at The Treasure Park, New Portreath Road, Redruth.
Among the artefacts at the museum are mining tools, maps and diagrams, acetylene (carbide) lamps, tin ingots, tokens, minerals, cost books, journals, Shift Bosses' hand books, plus photographs of many of the old mines. There are over 550 various flint spearheads, arrowheads and scrapers collected from the Illogan area (mostly from Carn Brea) at the end of the 19th century. Displays on education, fire service, police, St John Ambulance, farming, domestic appliances, mining and other models. Photographs and programmes of Redruth Amateur Operatic Society productions, photographs and programmes of Rugby teams (Cornwall, Redruth, Schools, Villages and visiting teams). There are also photographs of various forms of transport.
From a grant of £4,800 by the National Lottery 'Awards for All' scheme, computing equipment has been purchased for the digitising of the thousands of photographs so that eventually all of the images can be viewed on screen. These images are now in the process of being loaded onto the computer and it will be easier to find particular pictures when required.
